  11.   Russian culture prefers 'unhappy endings' over the western happy endings.
  12.   In the alternative version, Dr. Kammacher dies of an heart attack right
  13.   after he hears the news that his new love has died. Unfortunately for
  14.   Nordisk Film, the writer of the novel, Gerhart Hauptmann had made it very
  15.   clear in his contract that no changes to his story could be made. So
  16.   Nordisk Film released the alternative version only in Siberia, hoping
  17.   Hauptmann wouldn't find out.

  45.    in the original release but deleted from the Special Edition;
  46.  - one or two shots showing people dressed in clothing dating back to the
  47.    early 20th century (and perhaps earlier) and exiting the mothership ramp
  48.    are missing;
  49.  - all of the mothership interior scenes have been deleted; the ending is
